Considering Health Insurance? Consider Your Options.

There are many things to consider when choosing your health insurance plan. There are so many options available, it's very important to understand just what those options are.

One option available to you is get health insurance is a fee-for-service plan. In this type of plan, you choose your doctor and the health insurance company picks up some amount of the bill, based on the particular plan you have. The plus side to this type of plan is that you get to choose your own doctor. The downside to this type of health insurance plan is that it is typically the most expensive type of health insurance you can purchse.

Another option is a Health Maintenance Organization, more commonly referred to as an HMO. In this plan you pay a monthly fee but typically play little or no deductible. One issue with this type of plan is that if you have to go outside of the HMO network you will likely have to foot most if not all of the bill.

The last of the three most common types of plans is the Preferred-Provider Organizations, which are usually referred to as PPOs. In this type you can choose between a variety of doctors, but only the group of doctors that were chosen by your plan. While you do have to pay more of a deductible than in an HMO, you have much more flexibility in the number of doctors you can choose and if you have to go out of the network.

Whichever type of plan you choose from, just be sure you understand your contract before you sign it. Health insurance is an important investment and you should definitely make sure you have the coverage you need and that you deserve.
